Story
Maurice and Katia Krafft dedicated their lives to exploring the world’s volcanoes. Their legacy consists of groundbreaking images of eruptions and their aftermath, composed into this visually stunning collage. The images of erupting volcanoes are quite extraordinary, the accompanying soundtrack is appropriately haunting, this documentary also shows how devastating erupting volcanoes can be to humans, animals and the landscape in their path. You just have to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Plus, Werner Herzog’s narration is magnificent in its awe, tenderness and almost reverence for the power of nature, and his admiration for the Krafft couple is quite evident. You’re really left to lament that they died during an eruption in Japan because their archive seems unfinished while their legacy lives on.
